Camping on the Beach is a Good Idea: 7 Tips to Make it BEST

Have you tried to lay on the sand and watch millions of stars above as you listen to the crashing waves with your friends? It is so perfect, right!? Those are the moments I think I want to create over and over again.

I remember the first time we went to a very remote island to camp on the beach. Those were the days and nights that, until now, I can still recall! The experience was so fun and memorable that the vision of the crazy dance steps we made when we were drunk still flashes vividly before my eyes.

Tips - Camping on a Beach

Why is it great to camp on the beach?

Firstly, the beach has a good effect on our mental well-being. From the fresh air to the sound of the waves, the beach soothes us and gives us peace of mind.

For a while, we earn a portion of time free from the pressures of modern life. We get to do what we want to do together with our friends or families. We sing, drink, dance, talk about life, and more.

Aside from being a good activity for our well-being, Camping on the beach is cost-effective. It is easy to do as well. There is no requirement to be fit to get to the best spot for camping.

In this blog post, I will tell you everything you need to know about camping on a beach. Like, what do you need to check before going camping? The things you must bring, the activities you can do, and how can you make your camping one of the best moments of your life. So Let’s go digging into details!

LIST#1 Before going to the beach and camp

  • Okay, do not just pitch a tent and camp immediately on the beach you want. Ask the authorities first if the beach where you want to stay at is available for camping. Inquire if you need a permit or if there are fees. We do not like penalties and trespassing violations.
  • Ask the authorities if you can set up a campfire on the beach too. Again, we do not want penalties for the beach’s aesthetic or environmental protection violation.
  • If you want to set up a campfire, ensure that you are near the woods – where you can get tree branches to fuel your fire. Yet, bringing your own firewoods is more advisable.

Camp on The Beach What to Bring Checklist

In this blog post, I will tell you everything you need to know about camping on a beach. Like, what do you need to check before going camping? The things you must bring, the activities you can do, and how can you make your camping one of the best moments of your life. So Let’s go digging into details!

LIST#2 Camping Essentials on The Beach

for a fantastic camping site!

  • Beach tent. Of course, there is no camp if there is no beach tent. Depending on your preference, there are types of beach tents you might consider bringing. There is the Classic tent, Canopy, and Umbrella tent.
  • Sand stakes. Keep your tent sturdy and well attached to the sand. Sometimes, the beach gets very windy. And you do not want to see your tent flying around to be crushed by the wind.
  • Camping LED lantern. Yep, for the night. You would not want to turn on your phone’s flash to light up the campsite, yeah? 🙂
  • Sleeping bag. Give yourself a good sleep after having fun all day. Well, you can sleep on the sand-free blanket if it’s too hot to get inside a sleeping bag (bring pillows if you will).
  • Sand-free blanket or beach table. These would be the place where you shall eat. Keep those grains of sand away from your food.
  • Beach umbrella and chairs. During afternoons, everywhere could be extremely hot. Bring a UV-blocking umbrella to get some shade from the sun and beach chairs so you would not sit on the hot sand.
  • Camping string light. Make your campsite dreamy and glittering at night. For the ‘gram!

LIST#3 Food Essentials to Bring to the Beach

for the best night for your group and your fellows’ tummy!

  • Lighter or matches. We can’t cook if we can’t start a fire. Well, there is a fun alternative way invented thousands of years ago. Pick up two twigs and rub them with each other until you lose all your extra carbs. LOL. I’m just kidding!
  • Campfire grills and Cooking pots. Are you going to make barbeque or fry pork or cook something with soup?
  • Gas stove. Yes, it is convenient. But you’ll lose a bit of the essence of camping. What do you think?
  • A swiss knife. Everything that you’ll need, from slicing the tuna to opening the bottle of wine. Bring the bigger one.
  • Disposable utensils and plates. The beach is for fun, but not for washing the dishes. Who enjoys washing the dishes here?! LOL.
  • Water jug with water pump. Indulge yourself with water, immediately you feel thirsty – no more lifting and so on! (you would probably need to bring the table too)
  • Ready-to-cook meals. Make sure that you have prepared your food before going camping. We got no time to prepare food at the beach! LOL. Besides, you will not bring the chopping board and cooking knife, will you?
  • Cooler / Ice Chest. Store your ice, cold drinks, and the prepared ready-to-cook meal ingredients here.
  • Snacks. Fill your tummy on your way to the beach, between meals, and whenever you want! They are usually easier to bring than ready-to-cook meals.
  • Trash bags. To gather all our garbages and not pollute the sea.
  • Thermos. Don’t forget to bring your hot water for tea lovers and coffee lovers! It is so lovely to drink tea or coffee while watching the sunrise.
  • Beer and wine. Have a chill night with a warm conversation while listening to the sound of the crashing waves. Have cheers in the light of the setting sun – that’s so romantic.

LIST#4 Attire to Wear on a Beach

Outfit of the day?

  • Swimsuit. It is a beach. It is a necessity. Well, that is slightly true. Do you agree?
  • Wetsuit (for men or women) and Diving Gear. Perhaps there is a diving spot near your camp. A wetsuit shall keep you and your body heat intact.
  • Quick-drying shorts and shirts. Bring the most comfortable clothes. Do not bring clothes that absorb too much water. When those clothes get wet, they become heavier.
  • Hat and Sunglasses. If it is going to be too hot and too bright, you have to protect your eyes.
  • Sweatshirt and sweatpants. The temperature at night might drop. So, you got to be ready. Should you bring socks too? Sleeping outside could be very cold sometimes.
  • Flip flops. I had my shoes on the beach before. Even though I walked slowly and carefully, grains of sand were still able to go inside my shoe. It is not very comfortable, I tell you.

LIST#5 Personal items to have on the Beach

Don’t forget to make yourself clean and safe while you enjoy the beach!

  • ID. An identification card is always the first thing I pack in my bag. It is needed, especially if there is trouble or an accident. But yeah, let’s be careful all the time. Let’s always pray and hope nothing not great happens. Don’t forget a waterproof proof case for it.
  • First aid kit.
  • Medicine.
  • Sunscreen. A properly applied SPF 100 sunscreen blocks 99% of UVB rays; SPF 50 blocks 98%; SPF Below 50 to 30 will be enough to protect you from sunburn.
  • Bug repellent. I think you should bring the patch type. It is more convenient, and it shall not mix with sunscreen.
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste.
  • Bathing soap.
  • Shampoo and conditioner.
  • Quick-drying towel.

List#6 Extras, gadgets, and toys to Bring on the Beach

Things you might consider bringing too.

  • Kayak.
  • Snorkeling Gear.
  • Fishing rod.
  • Guitar.
  • Bluetooth Speaker.
  • Volleyball ball.
  • Game boards.
  • Water-resistant bags. It is a bag you can bring wherever you go on the beach to place your valuables.
  • Life jacket. Do for the safety of your fellows who are still learning to swim.
  • An action camera or a phone that can capture good videos and photos.
  • Tripod. Everybody wants to join in a group photo! Besides, it could help you take videos of the activities you would like to reminisce about after the beach camping.
  • High-capacity power bank. Give your devices an extra juice to last for more than a day. We would not want to miss capturing the best smiles, moments, and activities we do on the beach. Besides, this shall power your camping string light in your tent. If you plan to camp for more than one night, consider bringing power banks with solar panels.

The day on the beach could feel very long if you stare at the sea all day. Have something you and your mates could do together. I have listed below the things that you can do while camping on the beach to bond together and have great camping at the beach day and night. 🙂

LIST#7 What to do when camping at the beach?

Under the sun

During the day, everyone should enjoy the sun. Here are the ideas I got for you to try.

  1. Sunbath. It’s time to feel the sun! Tanlines are so sexy.
  2. Play ball games. Volleyball, dodge ball? Activities like these shall make your day at the beach ultra fun! Make sure to set your cameras on recording mode to check after the silly faces and the awkward stances your mates will be doing! Imagine how much laughter everyone will have as you watch the after-game video.
  3. Go and start fishing. The one who gets the largest fish wins! Do not forget to bring your fishing rod.
  4. Kayak and explore the shoreline with your friends and family.
  5. Listen and dance to music. Your body releases endorphins when you dance. It is a chemical that sparks positive energy and good vibes. Besides, probably you’re alone with your friends and family at the beach. So, do be ashamed to shake that hips and do the silly steps!

Beneath the stars

For me, evenings are the best time at the beach. In the evening, we see all the colors of the sky. It is the time when we see the brightest smiles of our fellows and hear their most intimate thoughts. There’s so much value we can get.

  1. Have a beer or wine while watching the sunset. I think this is the best way to start the evening. Celebrate with your friends or family. Be happy because you are together with each other.
  2. Play guitar and sing together at the top of your lungs. In a study by, people who sing along with each other feel a higher sense of well-being and meaningful connection.
  3. Spin the bottle. Know each other more. Spill secrets, I guess? LOL.
  4. Start a campfire and talk endlessly under the stars. Well, nothing completes camping, wherever it may be, without deep and beautiful talk with the people who matter to you. Say something about your dreams, your place in the universe, and the things you long to say. Seize the night, that sweet release.

BONUS: LIST#8 Tips – campfire on the beach

  1. Sometimes the beach could be really windy, and making a campfire could be very hard. But there is the sand! It is your best natural tool to protect your kindling of the campfire from strong winds. Dig a hole and use it as the fire pit. It will not only protect your fire from the wind, but it will also prevent the inadvertently spread of it.
  2. Put a ring of rocks around the pit so people would know that there was a fire in it, and they could not step on it accidentally, especially when the fire went low.
  3. After using the campfire, pour water on it. It is the safest thing to prevent any accident or unwanted spread of fire). Lastly, Do not ever burn your stuff and garbages! Protect the environment.

Beach camping is one of the best activities you can do with your friends. There are a lot of things you can do there and tons of moments to create. You do not have to spend too much money and be fit to camp on the beach.

The lists above are there for you to be your guide. They are not always necessary, and they shall always depend on the type of beach camping you desire. Ultimately, I want you to have fun and memorable camping at the beach. I hope you find this helpful. If you have suggestions, please tell me in the comments below. Thank you!
